Here's how it works:

• Register with your email address and a chosen password. You'll get an email in your inbox with a verification link, to make sure you're a real person and not a spammer!
• Confirm your gender, and what gender you'd like to meet, and your date of birth.
• Complete a few multiple choice questions about your education, preferences and profession.
• Then you work through a few categories - everything from whether you smoke and mind if your partner does or doesn't, to what sort of things you enjoy, and what personality traits you're looking for in a partner.

Some of the questions are multiple-choice between images, so pick the one that appeals most to you and don't spend too much time trying to guess what they mean!

Select your location from the map, and you're able to upload a profile photo or choose to come back to it later.

It's worth noting that while you need to provide a date of birth, that isn't shown on your profile, and nor is any of your personal information. This is used to verify the authenticity of your account and provide compatible match suggestions - for example, if you'd said you are happy to meet women plus or minus ten years of your age.

I checked what would happen if I entered a DOB that would make me younger than the intended 50+ membership, and I was able to create an account. That's no biggie (and it's perfectly valid that a 47-year-old woman might wish to meet guys over 50!). However, there is a potential to meet younger people on the site who fall a little outside of the mature age group.

Once you've finished registering, you have direct access to all the functions - including your matches, inbox and account support.
