Ease Of Use

Generally, ChristianMingle is easy to use - but you will need to upload a profile photo before you can start browsing the site. Most of the registration questions have a few mandatory fields (faith being an obvious one!), but I like that it differentiates between denominations, such as C of E or Catholic. That little question is essential to Christians in some cases and recognizes that you might be looking not only for a life partner who shares your values but also the ethics of your particular branch of the broader Christian church.

My next smile was in the 'Tell us About You' section, which made me think this was something more contemporary than your stale traditional faith-based dating sites. Top choices in my interests? Skateboarding and basketball! So, ChristianMingle.com isn't just about dating and marriage, but about establishing a rapport with like-minded people in your state or local area.

You have the option of skipping questions as much as you like - apart from the very few compulsory ones - so if you're hedging your bets and scoping out a few Christian dating sites, there's no pressure here!

One small drawback is that you see a prompt to upgrade to a premium membership when you've finished the initial registration, which sounds great, but there isn't an option to decline! So, you end up on the subscription page for a paid membership and need to click on 'Bring Me Back' to get back to your new home page.

When you're there, though, the fun starts - and I have to say, the quality of matches is way beyond what I'd imagined! My favorite feature is that ChristianMingle 'rates' your matches based on the preferences you've entered and where you live - so while Bernard was incredibly attractive, he was a 66% match. Still, Joel was definitely going to be a more realistic long-term prospect at an 82% match with me.

For me, that's a big fat plus point; quite often, you might be sent recommendations with a tenuous link to what you're looking for in a partner. Not so on ChristianMingle.com - the site rates it's own relevance without you needing to lift a finger and gives you an instant insight into whether your recommendations are genuinely aligned with the criteria and values you entered on registering.

I've got to mention the price - which isn't on the cheaper end of the scale. However, I'd be willing to place a solid bet that my $149.94 for a six-month membership of ChristianMingle.com would be a far more successful investment in my future love life than any free dating site membership - because the accuracy and viability of the match suggestions I've received are second to none!

By upgrading, you get a raft of exclusive features, including anonymous browsing (which always appeals to me, even if there's no particular reason for wanting to visit profiles in secret!). A paid membership offers unlimited private messaging, which has to be the most critical feature in any online dating site.

So, it does jump out at me that the slogan for ChristianMingle.com is immediately reminiscent of a Macklemore song, which doesn't quite equate to Christian values... That aside, which I am sure is unintentional, there's a lot to be said for faith-based dating sites, particularly if you're looking to meet men or women who share your beliefs, ethics, and morals and want to build a life with a like-minded person.

It's great to see profiles looking openly for marriage and kids - and this is the big difference with Christian dating. Showing your faith on your profile isn't a way to make yourself look a 'safer bet' or more attractive; it's an authentic commitment to your beliefs that determines what sort of person you'd like to spend your life with.
